How to Care for Your Heather Moore Jewelry
  • Many individuals are guilty of wearing their jewelry in the shower, or while cleaning the house, gardening or preparing dinner. Those activities not only dim the shine, but they sometimes can shorten the life of the jewels.

  • After each use, jewelry should be cleaned. Wipe jewelry with a soft cloth to remove dirt and sweat. Using warm water is best, as it breaks down dirt fastest.

  • Always remove your diamond jewelry before entering a chlorinated pool or hot tub. Chlorine, especially at high temperatures, can permanently damage or discolor your gold jewelry.

  • Keep that beautiful diamond ring away from chlorine bleach or other household chemicals. Chlorine can damage and discolor the mounting on your diamond jewelry.

  • Oxygen is what makes sterling silver tarnish. When you're not wearing your jewelry put it in an airtight container!

  • Store every piece of jewelry individually, not touching other pieces. All jewelry can scratch; even diamonds can be scratched by other diamonds.

  • Choose a jewelry box with a sturdy exterior and soft interior. Your jewelry box should be able to defend against external pressure to prevent damage by the surrounding elements. The soft interior will prevent the item from being damaged and help it maintain its original luster.

  • Use a soft fabric pouch to pack jewelry for travel if there is not enough space to pack a box with a hard exterior.

  • Place jewelry away from direct sunlight during storage. Sunlight will increase the temperature of the jewelry and cause damage over time. Some metals and gemstones may even change colors or become lighter as a result of excessive heat.

  • Take your rings off before doing lots of work involving water, since it can make your fingers shrink. Just remember to put the ring in a secure location (i.e., not on a ledge or near the the garbage disposal).

  • Never sleep in your jewelry. You just never know what it may catch on in the middle of the night!

  • Jewelry should be stored in a dry place away from humidity, moisture, and extreme temperatures. So if you have your jewelry tree sitting next to your bathroom sink, consider moving it to the bedroom!

  • Remove diamond jewelry prior to washing your hands and showering. Soap particles may become lodged in stone settings and crevices. Soap leaves a film over metal and stones, creating a dull appearance.

  • When getting ready, always put your jewelry on last. Make up, cosmetics and perfumes can cause damage to delicate items. Then at night, take it off first!

  • Rub a pencil eraser tip over dull spots in circular motions to give your silver charms a quick shine!
